Hurricane Gustav Update

I have been in contact with many people in AL, MS and New Orleans today. My plan is to arrive in Mobile on Tuesday. I will leave my RV in the parking lot of Creekwood CoC. Than I will survey the areas and start the plans for or mission. Once I know where our base operation will be setup I will let you know. Hopefully many of you will be able to come and help us for a few days. If you think you can just email or call me. mbaumg7736@aol.com 407-737-4963

Email from Don Hudson

Friends, by now all of us are probably aware of the hurricane that is growing in intensity and seems to be heading toward the gulf states. Rosemary and I are now working with "Disaster Assistance". This group is under the eldership of the Alachua Church of Christ in Alachua, Fla. I personally know one of the elders there and have been in his home. A man with whom we worked a great deal with in Katrina is the Director of the this work. His name is Mike Baumgartner. We have not only become brethren, but great friends. The work in which "Disaster Assistance" does first of all trying to minister and teach people who are affected by such disaster as hurricanes. We endeavor to set up bible study opportunities with them and give them literature about the Lord and the Church. We are involved in Needs Analysis, Food & Supply Distribution, Meal Preparation, Volunteer Cooordination and helping the local church in their coordination of work in the disaster.
Naturally funding is very important in this work of helping and comforting and teaching people immediately after the disaster strikes.
If you and/or the church to which you belong are looking for a mission minded disaster help group that goes right into the "heart of the disaster" would you please send donations to this excellent mission minded group. Disaster Assistance
Alachua church of Christ P.O. Box 237 Alachua Fl.32616 You can call Mike at 407 739 4963 for more info and of course if you would like to volunteer. You can call me anytime at 931 698 3150 , but you may not get me on the computer in a few days as Rosemary and I are planning to help if this storm developes into the disaster that many fear it will be.
May I say this. There are many other excellent Disaster groups lead by just excellent christians. If you are interested in helping another group, please also call me and I will be happy to put you in contact with others. We have friends and brethren in many good organizations. Thank you ahead of time for your prayers and assistance. Don

Hurricane Update

I just wanted to give all of you an update on what my plans are. I am in the process of watching
the paths of both hurricanes and talking with churches in the areas from New Orleans to
Mobile that I have worked with in the past. If the path of Gustav continues it looks like I will
be going back to the gulf coast area. Although I am not certain of the exact location. That
will be decided when I know the extent of the damage in each area.

One thing I do know for sure is that we will be needing volunteers if you would like to come
and help please reply back and let me know so I can keep you informed on where we will
be located.

The following are the areas that Disaster Assistance will help with:

Spiritual Warriors to minister with the people affected.

Needs Analysis.

Food & Supply Distribution.

Meal Preparation.

Volunteer Coordination.

Local CoC Coordination.

Funding is also an area that we will need help with if you are willing and able to help us please

send to the following address.

Disaster Assistance
Alachua Church of Christ
P.O. Box 237
Alachua, Fl 32616

Please keep me and everyone who will be affected by these storms in your prayers.

Disaster Assistance Update

I sent out a few emails to people in the affected areas telling them I was available to help them if they were going to offer any assistance. I also talked to Ralph at Disaster Relief (Nashville) this morning. He said they had talked to several churches in the areas that had received very much rain and had flooded streets and houses. So far they had no churches that wanted any supplies. I told him of another area he might check with that was having very high flood waters. Ralph said he will call me if they send out any supplies.

Fay Update From FBC

Well we keep our eye on Fay here at Florida Bible Camp all of last week. We were really blessed. Most of the bad storms went around us. We ended up with 7 1/2" of rain. The electricity was only off for short periods of time. We have about 10 times the normal amount of limbs and branches down but only two trees that fell, one small one and one medium size. Neither caused any damage.
